Managed or unmanaged: why it matters.

A managed switch has a configuration: VLANs, admin passwords, SNMP communities and sometimes RADIUS secrets. It must be reset before it leaves your hands. An unmanaged switch holds no configuration.

Cloud-managed gear, such as Ubiquiti UniFi, Aruba Instant On and Meraki, stays tied to your controller or cloud account until you remove it. Remove devices from the controller before pickup.
