Latitude model numbers since around 2017 have four digits. The first digit is the series: 3 for entry, 5 for mainstream, 7 for premium, 9 for flagship. The second digit is usually the screen size: 3 for 13 inch, 4 for 14 inch, 5 for 15 inch. The last two digits show the generation.
The generation digits move up by ten each year. A Latitude x400 is from around 2019, x410 around 2020, x420 around 2021, x430 around 2022, x440 around 2023 and x450 around 2024. So a Latitude 5420 is a 14 inch mainstream laptop from around 2021, usually with an 11th generation Intel Core processor.
Older fleets carry an E prefix, such as the Latitude E7470 or E5470 from around 2016.
At CES 2025 Dell announced that new PCs would move to three names: Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max, with Base, Plus and Premium tiers. Latitude, Inspiron and XPS machines already in your fleet are still bought under their original names.
The service tag on the bottom panel identifies the exact configuration. Sending us service tags gives the most accurate quote.
