IT disposal from an SEZ unit has two extra steps. Under the SEZ Rules, 2006, destroying goods needs at least seven days’ advance intimation to the Specified Officer (rule 39), and moving used capital goods out to the Domestic Tariff Area attracts duty on the depreciated value (rule 49). Four things that slow an SEZ job down.
- Advance intimation. Destruction needs at least seven days’ notice to the Specified Officer, so the pickup date follows the filing, not the other way round.
- Entry and movement. Vehicle numbers, staff ID details and the gate pass are arranged before the day. A last-minute vehicle change can stop the job at the gate.
- Matching documents. The asset list filed with the zone, the handover manifest and the certificates have to reconcile, item for item.
- Volume at once. SEZ retirements tend to be large: a whole floor of laptops or a server room, often with a closing deadline.
Six steps, in the order the zone needs them.
- Asset list first. Category, model, quantity, serials where your filing needs them, and which devices hold data.
- Route decided by your team. Destruction under rule 39, removal to the DTA under rule 49, or both for different items.
- Our documents to your filer. Company documents, vehicle and staff details for the gate pass, and the planned date.
- Data destroyed in the zone where your policy requires it, witnessed by your team.
- Pickup on the approved date, with a Form 6 manifest signed before the vehicle leaves.
- Certificates for your file: erasure reports or Certificates of Destruction, and the Certificate of E-Waste Recycling within 7 working days.

Yes. Rule 39 of the SEZ Rules, 2006 lets a unit destroy goods, including capital goods, after giving the Specified Officer at least seven days’ advance intimation. If destruction cannot happen inside the zone, it is carried out outside with the Specified Officer’s permission and in the presence of the Authorised Officer.
