What happens to a recycled laptop.
Recycling and buyback are the same pickup with a different outcome per laptop. Each laptop is checked. If it has resale value, it is paid for. If it does not, it is recycled. You never have to sort them yourself.
A laptop is dismantled into material streams: the battery, the display, the circuit boards, the aluminium or plastic chassis and the cabling. Each goes to the right downstream process. Lithium batteries are handled separately under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.

Laptop recycling checklist for IT teams.
- Back up and sign out. Save any data you need. Sign out of Microsoft, Google and Apple accounts.
- Release management locks. Deregister the device from Windows Autopilot, remove it from Intune or your MDM, and release Macs from Apple Business Manager. Turn off Find My and Activation Lock on Macs.
- Remove BIOS or firmware passwords. A locked BIOS reduces resale value to parts only.
- Record BitLocker or FileVault status. Encrypted drives are safer in transit. Do not hand over recovery keys.
- Keep asset tags on. They help you reconcile your register against our records.
- Include chargers. They add value and are recycled if not needed.
- Separate swollen batteries. Tell us at booking. Do not charge them.
